Firefox 3.5 slow on nfs mounted home directories

Firefox 3.5 slow on Fedora 11

After moving to a new office my desktop slowed to a crawl when visiting any website, seemingly hanging for 30seconds sometimes.

I had recently updated to Fedora 11 but also knew that our home directory was nfs mounted and the connection wasn't as fast as it was before. After googling for days I finally found 2 clues.

First clue is that firefox 3.5.2 and higher uses sqlite database files for a number of things, including storing bad websites etc. The sqlite files are stored in my ${HOME}/.mozilla/firefox directory

The second clue was a lot of articles about fsync changes in fedora 11. Combining the two I found the bug

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=439908

Removing the existing sqlite files helped a little. In the end I decided to use a local home for firefox instead of the remote nfs version until the network speed improved
